Kushadasi Municipality and Business Representatives Visit to Batumi

Within the frame of the twining project of resort cities of Batumi and Kushadasi initiated by the Georgian Entrepreneurs Confederation delegation of Kushadasi, Turkey visited Batumi on July 8-10 , 2010. New perspectives of twinning project were discussed in the meeting between Levan Varshalomidze, Chairman of Adjara Government and Kushadasi municipality and business representatives. Prior the 10-member delegation was hosted by Robert Chkhaidze, Batumi Mayor. In march, 2010 Batumi municipality representatives visited Kushadasi, where the document about fraternization of Batumi and Kushadasi was signed. Official memorandum will be signed at the Sister Cities Festival on October 16, 2010 in Kushadasi which will host 12 sister cities.
Twinning of Resort Cities of Turkey and Georgia

As initiated by the Georgian Entrepreneurs Confederation the document about fraternization of Batumi and Kushadasi was signed on March 5, 2010 by Mayors of these cities in Kushadasi municipality.
Return visit of Kushadasi delegation to Batumi is planned, during of which the Memorandum of cooperation will be signed.
Aimed at popularization of Georgian business opportunities the Georgian House will be opened in Kusadasi in the same period, which along with the range of cultural events will host presentations of Georgian investment projects and enhance partnering between Georgian and Turkish so as international businesses.
TURKONFED 13th Enterprise and Business Summit

Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TURKONFED), representing ten federations, one hundred business associations and over 10 thousand business people, is one of the largest non-governmental organizations of Turkey. Creating awareness on the common issues of the business, developing solutions and improving the business volume of the country are among the goals of TURKONFED. In this respect, TURKONFED hosts “Enterprise and Business Summits” annually in order to bring its members together and voice the confederation’s agenda strongly.
In order to increase the business volume, TURKONFED will be establishing a Business Development Platform for the occasion of its 13th Enterprise and Business Summit, which will be held on 17-18th of December, 2009, in Istanbul. Companies will be able to promote their products and services at this two-day event. Sixty companies are expected to join the event; contacting directly around six hundred business people coming from all parts of Turkey. Note that TURKONFED’s academic study on “Access to Finance for SMEs” will also be discussed during the Summit.
UBCCE THIRD BUSINESS FORUM FACING THE CRISIS AND SEIZING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE BLACK SEA & CASPIAN

Following its successfully held Business Forums in Azerbaijan and Turkey, UBCCE will be holding its Third Business Forum entitled “Facing the Crisis and Seizing Opportunities in the Black Sea and Caspian” in Thessaloniki, Greece this fall.
The Forum which will be hosted by Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) is expected to bring together not only the business community of our Region but also the high level officials from different countries and representatives of international organizations interested in this emerging part of the globe.
In the meantime UBCCE Management Committee IV Meeting will also take place in Thessaloniki where representatives from UBCCE member federations will have the opportunity to discuss the future activities of the Union. Taking into consideration the high profile of the two meetings in Thessaloniki, senior level participation is expected from all UBCCE member federations.
Statue of Antim Iverianu in Bucharest

In September 2009 Gigi Ugulava, Mayer of Tbilisi and Mircea Oprescu, Mayer of Bucharest signed important document which is the precondition of cooperation of these two cities in economic, social and other important areas.
In the frames of this cooperation Georgian Entrepreneurs Confederation initiated placing Statue of Antim Iverianu, Georgian writer, artist and public figure canonized as Saint by Romanian Church in Bucharest. Antim Iverianu was one of the founders of the first printing house in Georgia.
The Georgian Saint spent the last period of his life in Wallachia (currently Romania) and sacrificed himself to freedom of Wallachian people. Antim Iverianu turned Wallachia into the centre of Orthodoxy, which through the printing house established by Antim Iverianu was supplying Eastern Christians with books. Alongside his literary output, Antim Iverianu took active part in declaring independence of Romanian church and built more than 20 monasteries and churches. One of them is the well-known All-Saints Monastery in the centre of Bucharest. The entrance door of this monastery and engraved Georgian ornaments on stone are performed by Antim Iverianu.

The Regional Environmental Center (REC) together with together with Venice International University, Agroinnova and Istanbul Bilgi University, is organizing seminar series on “Partnerships for Sustainable Development in the Black Sea Region” which will be offered in two distinct locations, respectively in Istanbul, Turkey on September 6 - 13 and in Venice, Italy on October 25 - 31. The wide range of seminars will provide participants deeper knowledge on current sustainable development issues and its practical contexts both on a global and regional basis. The seminar series is intended to bring together different stakeholders in upper management and to enable a platform of sharing and partnerships towards attaining the goal of sustainable development. The relationship of the three pillars of sustainable development will be assessed and participants will find the opportunity to have a deeper insight on selected issues like climate change, sustainable resources management and water management. The target group of the seminar is high level civil servants from governments and local authorities in Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, the Russian Federation, Turkey and the Ukraine, as well as for high level business executives.

BRIDGING THE MEDITERRANEAN THE ATHENS BUSINESS FORUM

THE BLACK SEA REGION: NEW OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FOR REGIONAL COOPERATION

On 14 and 15 May 2009, the Southeast Europe Association (Suedosteuropa-Gesellschaft / SOG) in close cooperation with the German Association for East European Studies (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Osteuropakunde / DGO), organize an International Conference on the topic “The Black Sea Region: New Challenges and Opportunities for Regional Cooperation” in Berlin / Germany.
The main objective of our conference is to critically reflect on the present needs and realistic options for enhanced regional cooperation in the (Wider) Black Sea Region. The particular focus will be on the perceptions from the region regarding each country’s role in the region, the key issues in foreign and security policy, and the views and visions on sustainable regional cooperation. The role of international institutions like BSEC, the IFI’s, OECD, and others, will be discussed. The various approaches of the European Union in relation to the Black Sea Region, like the recent Eastern Partnership, will be reflected on. The intention is to give a constructive input to EU policies towards the region.
The conference will convene regional experts and researchers from the wider Black Sea Region and EU countries, representatives of international organisations, IFIs and institutions of cooperation in the region, the German Federal Foreign Office and other Federal Ministries, the German Bundestag, etc.
This conference is a follow-up to a series of high profile International Conferences the SOG has organized with various partners in 2007 and 2008, all focusing on regional cooperation in the Black Sea Region.

The European Commission is organising the first European SME Week in May 2009 to inform SMEs about available support at the European Union and national level and to encourage more people to become entrepreneurs. The SME Week will be a European umbrella campaign for activities that take place throughout Europe. The SME Week will be launched in Brussels on May 6 and the closing event will be organising together with the Czech Presidency on May 13 - 14.

Mamuka Skhvitaridze, GEC Chairman and Irakli Gachechiladze, deputy minister of the Economic Development of Georgia participated in the seminar on the trade and investment opportunities of the Black Sea and Caspian Region with Spanish entrepreneurs, organized by the UBCCE together with Spanish Confederation of Employers' Organizations (CEOE) and TUSIAD International in Madrid, Spain, on March 4.
During the Seminar where the opening speeches was delivered by CEOE Vice President Mr. Juan Lazcano, TUSIAD Energy Working Group Member Mr. Erdal Aksoy, CEOE Energy Commission President Mr. Antonio Garamendi, TURKONFED President Mr. Celal Beysel and the representative of Spanish Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction, country based presentations of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Turkey and Ukraine took place and potential cooperation areas were analyzed.
Held at CEOE Headquarters in Madrid, the Seminar was attended by more than 70 delegates representing Spanish companies along with high level representatives from diplomatic missions of UBCCE countries and Spanish Ministries of Infrastructure and Construction; Industry, Trade and Tourism, and Foreign Affairs.

During a ceremony held prior to the General Assembly, UBCCE signed a memorandum
of understanding and cooperation with International Congress of Industrialists and
Entrepreneurs (ICIE) and Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation
